I first used the Arc4Health when it was recommended to me after doing a multiple rotational BiMaellor Fracture of my left ankle in a showjumping fall at Mount Ballan horse trials in 2018. I had surgery, with 2 plates and 15 screws inserted, including a diastasis screw. The Arc was instrumental in my recovery, but also crucially my pain management, both in the immediate aftermath but also subsequently. I returned to riding at 14 weeks and was competing successfully at 16 weeks. I am an Accredited BHS / BE coach and during the summer months I can spend long hours standing and walking on rough terrain especially when coaching XC. The Arc was instrumental in assisting with managing swelling and ongoing healing whilst trying to continue to work.
When I first received the Arc I was initially dubious but it had such good recommendations and I needed all the help I could get! Once I was back coaching I had a period where I lost the battery charger and so I couldn’t use it. I subsequently found it after a month and returned to using it immediately. The effects were instant, pain reduced significantly, I slept through the night for the first time in a month, I could then wear shoes other than trainers, and I didn’t need to elevate the foot or ice it for hours at the end on an already long day teaching. Since my fracture I have had to have 4 subsequent operations on this ankle and two on my right ankle. The Arc has been invaluable in expediting healing and making the pain manageable. I really like being able to rely on it for pain management, and therefore keep my use of stronger pain meds such as Codeine, Co-codamol etc to none at all or the bare minimum.
Separately I was a doing a lot of long haul flying at the time and I always found that my ankles used to swell up so much that I could only wear flip flops, especially since the fracture and subsequent operations. Wearing the Arc on my ankle whilst flying has significantly reduced to this, to the point that latterly I could have worn stilettos on arrival the last few times, despite having flown for 15 hours.
As an aside I always use the Arc at night and I have continued to use it now most nights. It aids with general aches and pain including helping with menstrual cramps, but where it works on the circulation it also has very beneficial effects on reducing hangovers too! My partner is a serving military officer and an elite fitness competitor he has now being using his Arc4health every night for 6 months and has noticed a significant improvement in his exercise recovery times and his overall injury healing from many post exercise related niggles.
