Broken Humerus

I have to say I was very sceptical about the Arc, was it a mental thing? Did it do what it said it would? At the time anything was worth a try and I am so glad I spoke with a couple of other riders about their use of the Arc, this really helped me make the best decision I made!!

On the 1st August I broke my right humerus (spinal fracture of the distal humerus with a 5mm displacement). The initial prognosis was 8-12 weeks but to be honest due to the displacement they were talking more like 16-20 weeks. Wearing the Arc 24/7 was the recommendation, coupled with the advice from Ian Thirkell and I was set!

Today is 7 weeks after the accident and 6 weeks since I started using the Arc. At my appointment today I met with a Senior Consultant who reviewed my x-rays and commented that he was “very impressed with the amount of bone growth and how well the bone had realigned, and that there was total reunion”. He followed this with “I was very concerned at this fracture, the displacement was one of the worst I’ve seen”. The brace is now off and the arm feels good, and the bone will continue to densify. But now the real hard work starts to regain the strength in the shoulder muscles because at the moment they’re very weak.

Would I recommend Arc? Absolutely, without hesitation.
