Having polo ponies that were ageing I was always looking for an addition aid to keeping them fit and healthy, aside from their start and end of season massages and chiropractic work in between. I have one pony who is now 35 and still going strong – no longer playing polo of course! Being a slightly bigger build meant she was a ‘mans’ pony for the years before I got her, she had worked hard. I played her gently but after a few years noticed her starting to ‘creak’ a bit and wanted to slow things down for her. When it came to retiring her she was not ready in her mind to stop. I had her hocks and fetlocks medicated as she was showing signs of arthritis, which x-rays confirmed, and had SI issues, but in her mind she was not ready to slow down. We went out x-country, she took to working hunter and Hunter Trials, I always tried to look after her by doing didi courses, as she was over 23 at this point, and just wanted to have fun with her, but she always had other ideas, jumping twice as high as she needed! I was reluctant to keep having her joints
injected to keep her happy. She’s still bute free and not medicated, I truly believe the Arc, along with magnetic and infra red therapy has kept her going – no one can believe her age until they see her teeth! general consensus is she is a 7yr old… she’s one fantastic little horse.
