Breed: ISH
Original prognosis was mild, acute left hind PSD (high suspensory ligament strain), following as a knock on issue from sore back as a result of a poor saddle fitting by a saddler.
My vet recommended 3 x shockwave treatments, and one cortisone injection to try and improve the suspensory ligament. Controlled exercise (no turnout) throughout, on hard surfaces (lanes), starting with 10 mins in walk each day and then building up the length and intensity of the work slowly over a period of months. He did think that we would need the neurectomy/facsiotomy operation to improve the damaged suspensory ligament, but we both agreed to see whether the suspensory ligament injury would come right with a non-invasive rehab programme first.
My vet had recommended that I look into micro current therapy. I found the ArcEquine website and called Ian to discuss the technology. I really liked what I heard and started the ArcEquine just after the last shockwave therapy. I continued for 12 consecutive weeks.
The suspensory ligament injury was diagnosed at the end of May 2014. I was very cautious with the rehab, keeping him on the roads only in straight lines until end of September. The suspensory ligament injury was scanned at the outset, with a further scan at the end of September. There was no noticeable change in the ligament fibres, but my vet recommended that we go on how the horse was looking and feeling – which was superb.
Now, 8 months later, he is sound and back up to full fitness except for jumping and lunging, which I will be starting in February. He is stronger and moving better from behind than he has ever done. We still have a long road ahead as the suspensory ligament injury can reoccur or break down. I will also need to manage his work, particularly the surfaces he is working on, for the rest of his life. However, I am convinced that we have such a positive story to date because of the conservativeness of the rehab programme, and the use of ArcEquine to optimise healing and minimise scarring.
I am still using the ArcEquine on the maintenance programme, and I must say that Ian and his team have been incredibly supportive and helpful all the way through the process. I would recommend the ArcEquine to anyone.
