My horse in 2016 managed to bugger his meniscus, collateral and cruciate ligaments by his near side stifle. Nearly a year later and we were back to normal, hooray!!.
8 months later he managed to do it again, this time vet said he wasn’t sure if we would get him back, if we did he could possibly be a light hack. Look at him being a companion horse at the most….
Plan was absolute max of an hours walking and in at night, Codey stresses if in 24/7. All seemed to be going well for the first 4/5 months. The vet saw Codey in January for his jabs and was happy with his leg, he said I could extend the walking gradually building up to a max of 3 hours if I felt he was happy with it. Then I had a minor operation and wasn’t riding as much as normal, so Codey decided to play in the field, despite it being February wet, boggy and not the best circumstance for his dodgy leg!! Twice he managed to pull the shoe off on his bad leg, the swelling on the inside of his hind leg was the worst I had seen it for ages. Hacks were back to an hour max and i was giving bute and wondering what else I could do for him.
Searching the internet and facebook I came across the ArcEquine. Reading reviews it seemed very good, as my husband put it, more money to be wasted on gadgets that don’t do what they say !!. Anyway like all good wives I ignored him and ordered a complete unit !!.
The swelling on Codey’s inside hind leg from his injury quickly subsided. Codey seemed to want me to put it on him. I was sorting his rugs out in his stable, while he was wearing it, we are very close, he nudged me in the back so I thought ok what’s up. Upon looking I discovered the unit had gone from green to red. He watched as I sorted it out, then went back to munching his hay.
When he was scanned at the end of March my vet couldn’t believe the difference in the stifle area, there was no floating debris, there had been loads before. Also there was no swelling, he was very happy with it. To the point he suggested we introduce trot. Straight lines only, 30 seconds at a time, slowly building up. I put the arc unit onto program 2 at this stage, I am not using it everyday.
8 weeks later and now trotting for up to 2 mins, several times up to 20 mins. My vet came back for another look at Codey and to scan again, to make sure the stifle area was holding up to trot. I had felt know problems or I would have stopped but you cannot see under the skin.
Codey’s leg is looking super do I fancy starting canter ???…..errr this is the horse we thought was going to be most likely a companion, in my dream a light hack ??? HOLY MOLY YES !!!. Straight lines only, line side in the school…..I can do that !!
I really do believe that Codey has come so far in his recovery because of the arc unit.
I have now brought the arc4health for my husband, he has knee problems and arthritis they will not be operate on as he has kidney failure and is on dialysis. I didn’t tell him I was getting it. He has only just got it and worn it twice, he will be wearing it daily !!. He already feels there is a difference in his knees.
So stop hesitating, go and get yourself or your horse an arc unit, they are brilliant.
