I bought the ArcEquine for a SDFT injury and manica flexoria tear. This is the third tendon injury on the same leg this horse (Sidney) has had, rupturing it by 85% whilst racing in 2010, he was retired immediately. I used the Microvet on him then and it worked brilliantly but it was a bit of effort getting it on because of all of the wires, that’s why I traded it in for an Arc device. In August 2017 whilst messing about in the field I think he must have twisted his fetlock joint resulting in the manica also being damaged. He was lame and his leg quite swollen above his joint, it looked like bad windgalls. He was scanned by my vet and prescribed box rest. I knew from his previous injury that he would walk out in hand quietly and would be quiet in a small turn out paddock so I put the Arc on him and that’s what I did. He came sound within a week or two and the hot, angry swelling went down leaving a firm lump where the damage is, I’ve been told this won’t ever go down. As the weather got worse and ground conditions wet and slippery I put him out in a field shelter with come picked grass next to my other horse to give him a change of scenery everyday. He was scanned again in December and it had healed. As the weather was so awful through the winter and early spring and could not be turned out I wanted him to have some time in the field eating grass before I started riding him again. Last week I threw the saddle on him and off we went, he feels great, I still use the Arc on him at least once a day so now it’s all down to him not self harming again.

The Arc is much easier to use than the old Microvet but I have found that the pads can rub, even when switching legs after every session. I now always put a piece of gamgee under the straps right up to either side of the pads as the tough seams sit right on top of the tendon. I have purchased the new pad to go under the device so hopefully this will help further when it arrives.
