Breed: Connemara X

When Belle, an 18 yr old Connemara X and a very important family member, fractured her cannon bone and severed her near hind splint bone, we were recommended euthanasia or up to 6 months on cross ties with no guarantee of success due to her age and the mental effects…

We opted for the latter (against most peoples advice). Whilst not being a top class eventer or show pony she was a very important part of our family and deserved a chance.

A series of 18 bandages + cotton wool and a piece of guttering (Jones bandage) were applied to the fractured cannon bone and severed splint bone weekly by the vet.

ArcEquine treatment and management (ie. programme used, other products, rehab exercise, etc.) was used and within a short time the fractured cannon bone and severed splint bone developed severe itching and anxiety which made it look likely that I would have to opt for euthanasia after all. However, the vet was very excited having spoken to Ian who offered the ArcEquine unit which could potentially speed up the healing process and help calm her down.

The change was dramatic using the advised series of programmes she became calmer (chilled even) and within 12 weeks very short walks in the stable increasing to short walks outside and grass!

The next x rays showed good healing of the fractured cannon bone and fusing of the previously severed splint bone. The bandage was reduced after 16 weeks and able to come off cross ties shortly after.

She is now fully sound and very happy. It was great to know that I had made the right decision although it was hard work.

I would absolutely 100% recommend the ArcEquine to a friend.
