Using currents measured in microamperes (far below 1 mA) it works in harmony with the body\u2019s own natural bio\u2011currents. Because the stimulation is so mild, it doesn\u2019t create noticeable sensations such as tingling or muscle contractions, making it a calm and comfortable therapeutic option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This experience is referred to as subsensory whereby the stimuli is below the threshold of conscious sensory perception. It is too weak to be physically felt or heard but is still strong enough to be detected by the body&#8217;s nervous system. (1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Adenosine Triphosphate<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The application of microcurrent stimulates mitochondrial biogenesis through the increase of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production and lipolytic activity from both visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue. ATP provides readily releasable energy that supports a broad range of cellular functioning, namely cell signalling, DNA\/ RNA synthesis, etc. (2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Placebo<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;The effects of microcurrent therapy are proven and supported through studies into the effect microcurrent therapy has on pain management, tested against placebo. In particular, the effect MCT has for those which shoulder and knee pain when tested against a placebo group administered a counterfeit MCT. Each protocol has a specific focus as explained below;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Programme 1; full pain and inflammation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Programme 2; relief and early recovery<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Programme 3; balanced recovery<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Programme 4; repair and regeneration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each programme varies slightly depending on the need of the user and the desired outcome to be achieved. This also explains why the protocols recommended utilise multiple programmes to be run sequentially to target the necessary issue. (3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Inflammation Reduction<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MCT can quickly reduce inflammation by modulating inflammatory pathways, such as the NF-\u03baB pathway, which is the main inflammation switch in the body, modulating the activity of enzymes like AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and regulating ion channels to reduce the inflammatory triggers. (3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Soft Tissue Healing<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through influencing the electrical and biochemical processes that drive the repair in muscles, fascia, ligaments and connective tissue. As soft tissues rely heavily on bioelectric signalling to coordinate inflammation, regeneration, and structural remodelling, increase in cellular activity and production of energy in the form of ATP promoted the healing of soft tissue. (5)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Summary<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Microcurrent Therapy (MCT) uses extremely low\u2011level electrical currents that mimic the body\u2019s natural bioelectric signals without producing any physical sensation. These subsensory currents boost cellular energy by increasing ATP production, which supports cell signalling, repair, and regeneration. Studies have shown how MCT provides real pain\u2011relief benefits beyond placebo, especially for shoulder and knee pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Different tissues respond to different electrical frequencies, so MCT programmes are designed to target inflammation, early recovery, balanced healing, and deeper repair. Microcurrent also reduces inflammation by influencing key pathways like NF\u2011\u03baB and AMPK pathways, and by regulating ion channels that control pain signalling.
